Select a pollutant
or polluted source from the left column and an action -- the work that
the contractor does from the right column. Put them together and chances
are, we write those. And that's just a small sampling. In most cases
we can offer Commercial General Liability (CGL), Contractor's Pollution
Liability (CPL) and Professional Liability (PL). Minimum premiums generally
start at either $2,000 or $2,500, depending on the class.
There are two drop
downs below that offer applications. The top one does not include Transportation
Pollution Liability (TPL); the bottom one does. If your client transports
any hazardous materials, such as to and from a job site or to a disposal
site, then use the bottom drop down to get your application.

Non-
Environmental Contractors, Engineers and Consultants
The pollution
exclusion in the Commercial General applies not only to contractors doing
environmental work, such as asbestos contractors. It applies to all policies
and all accounts. And most contractors have environmental exposures that
they never even think to insure -- like the painting contractor who allegedly
failed to adequately ventilate a building thereby, resulting in a pollution
claim of over $200,000 or the grading contractor who spread soil around
a site to the engineers specs-- only to find out later that it was polluted.
He was sued for $1 mil -- not covered by the CGL policy. For a few more
examples, click here ==> Claims

Various
Other Types of Environmental Insurance
There are several
other products that are generally fall outside the classifications above.
We have developed applications for several of them, in the drop down below.
In addition to those
applications, we will soon be adding Railroad Protective Pollution, Marine
Pollution, Fixed Cost Remediation Coverage, Owners & Contractors Pollution
and more.
But I draw your particular
attention to Products Pollution. When a product is defective, it may also
often pollute. Environmental markets will write monoline Products Pollution
and will also often write the coverage together with full Products Liability
or even a full CGL policy. The cost of the monoline Products Pollution
may be fairly high, but combined with Products Liability or a CGL, it
may be very competitive with what the client is paying without Products
Pollution.
So if you didn't get
that Products driven account last year, here is your entry back into the
account this year. If you can include the Products Pollution when your
competitor hasn't, then you make take that account away this renewal.
Coming
Soon -- Company Specific Applications
The applications
above are generic applications, designged to provide enough information
that the account may meet the underwriting needs of a large number of
carriers. In most cases, once we have found the best carrier for your
account, you will then have to complete their application. However,
if you know which carrier is probably going to write the account, it
might save you some time to use that carrier's own application.
In the next week
or so, we will upload as many company specific applications as we can.
Submission Requirements:
Carriers will generally quote, or at least indicate, off of anybody's
completed application. So if you've already completed an application,
don't then complete ours. Just send us what you've got and, presumably,
it will be sufficient for quoting purposes.
In the meantime, if
you need an application, and you don't find it under one of the drop down
lists above, then please email your request, including the coverages needed
and a description of the operation to Kim
LaMont
Applications are best submitted directly to: applications@surpluslines.com
